THROW A MIDSUMMER PARTY IN YOUR DOLL’S HOUSE, COMPLETE WITH MAYPOLE, GARLANDS OF FLOWERS AND A WONDERFUL SUMMER PICNIC.
At the end of June each year, the whole of Sweden celebrates Midsummer’s Eve. We dance around the maypole, wear garlands of flowers in our hair and celebrate the arrival of summer. We celebrate Midsummer this time of the because now is when the days are the longest – and the nights are the shortest. After 21 June, the sun begins to rise a little later and set a little earlier again.
Why not let your dolls join in the Midsummer celebrations? After decorating and dancing round the maypole, you can have a wonderful summer picnic in the garden or throw a barbecue party on the terrace.
It’s easy to make your maypole using pipe cleaners and plastic flowers, and you can also use leaves and flowers from your own garden to decorate around it. On the Midsummer Eve dinner table you’ll find Swedish classics like strawberries, meatballs and prince-sausages, but why not lay out your feast on a picnic blanket? All you need to make a picnic blanket for your dolls is a little fabric, a pair of scissors and some glue, and you could also sew a pretty border with a needle and thread. Read below to learn how to make your own maypole and picnic blanket.
If you’re a whiz in the kitchen you could also bake some mini cookies for your dolls, and put on a feast for the whole family in the garden!
