“Oh, doll's houses! The dream of all those interested in interior decoration. I bought my first doll's house from the 1960s at a flea market last year and could not let go of it for a week. I spent every spare moment painting, doing the tapestry, fixing the floor and roof. I did not have any furniture so I made everything myself from foam boards and fine paper. As soon as I was ready I wanted a new one to test new ideas, patterns and colour schemes!”
Who is Kreativa Karin (Creative Karin)?
“I have always referred to myself as KalasKarin (Party Karin) in different contexts and when my Instagram account gained momentum roughly a year ago I renamed myself KreativaKarin because that reflected the content of my stream a little better. Kreativa Karin is me, Karin Andersson, 36 years old. Originally from Märsta, but for the past 15 years I have resided at fantastic Hisingen in Gothenburg. In fact, I live in the district Lundby, where Lundby doll’s house was founded many years ago. I love Gothenburg and am very proud to reside at Hisingen in particular!”
Final push before bed time, mini prints!
HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN HANDY AND CREATIVE?
“I have always loved to draw, paint, sew, design own patterns, refurnish and interior decorate. In some way being able to express myself visually gives me a lot of energy and happiness and since my daughter was born four years ago my creativity has completely exploded! Since then I have quit my old job, studied graphic design and in June will graduate as a Visual Merchandiser. My biggest passion is designing, styling, creating, remodelling and testing new ideas within interior decoration, DIY and pottering and inspiring others to try new things!”
Tapestry is in place and the kitchen is ready, I worked on the pineapple a little extra and changed the floor so that it suited the walls a little better!
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?
“I will graduate from Handelsakademin in June and am working on my degree project at IKEA right now. I collaborate with some of Sweden’s largest shops and have done many inspiration articles and DIY tips. After graduation I am hoping for many exciting job offers and freelancing on the side with own fun projects within interior decoration, design and inspiration.”
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING WHEN YOU HAVE A SPARE MOMENT?
“I undoubtedly sit by my small desk, among my lovely pottering material and test a new idea I got during the day. It is difficult for me to tire out and I almost never watch TV. I prefer to spend my evenings among paper, decorative plastic and tape.
Long to come home for this!
DOLL’S HOUSE – WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
“Oh, doll’s houses! The dream of all those interested in interior decoration. I bought my first doll’s house from the 1960s at a flea market last year and could not let go of it for a week. I spent every spare moment painting, doing the tapestry, fixing the floor and roof. I did not have any furniture so I made everything myself from foam boards and fine paper. As soon as I was ready I wanted a new one to test new ideas, patterns and colour schemes!”
The entire house is ready!
HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE?
“Only two, I don’t have room for more but could easily imagine renovating and selling them on only to make space for a new project! In the world of doll’s houses you can test all fun and crazy interior decoration ideas which the rest of the family may not appreciate in the regular home.”
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THEM AND WHAT DO YOU PLAN IN THE FUTURE?
“I have decorated the ceiling with decorative plastic and paper. Made own tapestry in Illustrator and printed from the computer, right now the collection consists of pineapples, bananas, strawberries, anchors, hot dogs, water melons and there will surely be many more! I have made chequered floors from small decorative plastic boxes. I have made furniture from foam boards and own designed paper and small boards and mini prints. My latest house will be included in my graduation exhibition and I hope that it is successful!”
And here is the result, tada! Cardboard paper which I have cut and stuck with double-stick tape!
DO YOU EVER GET TIRED OF POTTERING, INTERIOR DECORATION, COLOUR AND SHAPE?
“My spontaneous answer would be no, but of course sometimes you feel like it is good to have a break and take a day off from trend analyses, the latest fashion and designing. But I almost never feel like the inspiration is running out and I really love it with all my heart, it makes me feel good!”
WHAT IS YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME A MORE HANDY AND CREATIVE VERSION OF THEMSELVES?
“Dare to test and do not give up! I do everything several times because it is so much better when you have tried several times and got the design in the best way. Go through Instagram and Pinterest and then search descriptions on YouTube, there you will find videos of how to do everything! Being able to pause and rewind the clip and create at your own pace is brilliant! And of course follow KreativaKarin on Instagram!;-)
